260 Willow Street in Southport, CT, demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform an older structure into a functional, stunning modern home.

Located in Southport Village, the property sold in 2020 for $2.265 million before undergoing an extensive renovation overseen by Architect Christopher Pagliaro. Originally built in the 1950s, the Colonial-style home had a dated exterior, low ceilings, and a fragmented layout.

The exterior of the main house underwent significant updates (photos). The red brick was replaced with white-painted brick for a clean, textured look. Windows were expanded and framed with European black metal. Dormers were consolidated into a single, more substantial structure, and the asphalt roof was replaced with slate.

The redesign extended beyond the main house, with the pool house and guest house also receiving updates to create a cohesive aesthetic across the property.

Inside, the first floor was opened up by removing walls, and a glass gallery was added to connect the living spaces. This adjustment improved circulation and allowed more natural light to fill the interior. White oak beams and columns were added to tie the open layout together and introduce warmth in the design.

A sunroom that had initially been considered for demolition was instead reimagined as a cocktail lounge. The space now features dark walls, leathered stone surfaces.

The property was most recently listed for $12,000,000 before being removed from the market after failing to find a suitable buyer.
