Our Take
167 Lyons Plain Road in Weston is a 1749 Antique Colonial with three bedrooms, two full baths, and one half bath on 1.84 acres. The home has King-cut wood floorboards, three fireplaces, and a bright sunroom. The dining room, identified as the original kitchen, includes a fireplace and beehive oven. A barn includes four stalls, a heated two-car garage with a sink and running water, and a pull-down attic. The property also has a shed, kennels, a finished heated walk-up attic, and a full-house generator.
Historic Profile
Known as the Ebenezer Thorp House, 167 Lyons Plain Road is a mid-eighteenth-century farmhouse whose grounds include a barn and stone walls. Its later history includes a connection to Irish wolfhound breeding. By 2008, breeder and breed educator Jill Bregy was using this Weston address for her work with the dogs. Her Wildisle line included the champion Wildisle Warlock. Bregy acquired her first Irish wolfhound in 1966 and went on to teach obedience and handling classes. In a 2022 interview, she described raising puppies in her kitchen, keeping senior dogs in the house, and using a barn equipped with indoor and outdoor runs. When the property was offered for sale in 2024, its barn contained kennels alongside garage space, adding a distinctive later use to the old farm property.
Research note: The available Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office entry dates the house to about 1749 and spells the historic name Thorp. Preservation Connecticut's 2011 barn record uses Thorpe and gives 1745. The original house-survey forms were not available for review, leaving the precise construction year and original ownership unresolved. The barn's age has not been established. Bregy's address is explicit in breed publications; identifying this as the setting of her 2022 account rests on those address matches and the property's later kennel description.
