Marion Castle in Stamford, CT: A Landmarked Château Fit for Bruce Wayne

Perched above Shippan Point in Stamford, CT at 1 Rogers Road, Marion Castle—also known as “Terre Bonne”—is a commanding French château-style estate. Designed by the architectural firm Hunt & Hunt in 1914, this expansive residence was built for Frank J. Marion, an early pioneer of the film industry.

Marion Castle features a steep slate roof with copper detailing and large windows strategically positioned to capture sweeping views of Stamford Harbor and the New York City skyline. Spanning nearly 13,000 square feet, the home boasts nine bedrooms and more than five and a half bathrooms (pics).

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the grandeur of the main floor, highlighted by a double-height ballroom with an oversized fireplace that opens onto a sprawling outdoor terrace.

Set on 1.67 landscaped acres, Marion Castle is surrounded by lush grounds featuring specimen linden trees, a Japanese maple grove, and magnolia trees. Four terraces provide ample space to take in breathtaking views of the surrounding area. A heated 20-by-50-foot pool offers a private retreat, while association beach access enhances the property’s waterfront appeal.

Ownership Through the Decades

Built as a retirement home for Frank J. Marion, a founder of the Kalem Company and a pioneer in the film industry, the castle has a storied past. After Marion’s passing in 1963, the property was owned by David Cogan, a key figure in the development of color television. In 1978, the castle was added to the National Register of Historic Places under the stewardship of Jay Kobrin and Gordon Micunis.
